Unbroken was directed in 2014 by Angelina Jolie.
The film begins with a view of childhood of Italian, Louis Zamperini (Jack O'Connel) who finds something that he's good at - running. He has been dedicating himself to this sport for years. As a young man he won at the Olympic Games. During Second World War he signs up to Air Force. Unfortunately one of his mission ends with an accident, plane falls down into the ocean. From the crew only Louis and two of his friends stay alive. They have been drifting in pontoons for a long time. They were found by the crew of Japanese ship and taken prisoner to POW (prisoner-of-war) camp. On of Louis'es friends was killed and the other one was separated from him. Now Zamperini is alone among hundreds of other prisoners and sadistic Japanese soldiers. He has to work hard in inhuman conditions, he's malnourished and maltreated by his butchers. In the camp there is a commander called Takamasa Ishihara (Mutsushiro Watanabe) who is doing everything to break Louis down but he doesn't give up. He was punched in the face by every prisoner and stood still each time, he had to hold very heavy log above his head all day and he didn't drop it. One day Louis organises a spurt among prisoners and leads them out of the camp. They are found by American soldiers and they can come back home.
What's the point in never giving up? He risked his life, he was aware of that he could stay in the POW camp till death, probably imminent death. But the point in never giving up is trying because if you don't try you will never know if it was worth trying. There's no life without taking risk. You have to believe in yourself, stay strong, no matter what do you want to achieve. You have to be... Unbroken.
"Believe in miracle,
Oh hey, I'm floating above the world now"
Oh hey, I'm floating above the world now"
